Flying just isn't the same.

Tomorrow morning I fly to Reno to spend a few days with Jan and Phyllis, her incredible mom. We will drive home on Wednesday.

Airports can be emotional places. People cry because they are happily greeting loved ones or cry because loved ones are leaving them. Occasionally you might see a strange sight and hear giggles coming from behind a pillar.

I believe Jake was barely a year old when he went to greet his Mommy (Eris) and Daddy at the airport. They had been in Vegas at a business meeting for three days. Eris really missed him and wanted him waiting at the gate with hugs and kisses. Ummm, sorry. For 30 minutes Jake sat at the head of an escalator dressed in his torn and mismatched clothes, covered with the remnants of a Raspberry Twinkie. He was perfectly content while watching lots of people pass by, some chuckling and some stopping to talk to him. He was fascinated by all the attention. Some people walked by more than once just to see what was going to happen.

A sad and disappointed Eris finally reached the top of the escalator to find Jake waiting for her, along with about a dozen people who were also curious about who this poor child belonged to. Eris' screams of joy were accompanied by applause and laughter from the crowd. The giggles coming from behind the pillar became uncontrolled laughter!
Airports just aren't fun anymore.

Haha! I totally remember that! Too bad that security won't let that happen again!

I think Eris got him back by the sign she made when we went to the Denver Broncos game a couple of years ago: "SHHH OUR KIDS THINK WE'RE AT CHURCH!" Classic.

Yes, it was fun. I especially loved the fact that my boss and my boss's boss were there to witness the whoe thing.

BTW, you started the whole thing when you told Athena and me "Don't embarass me at the airport."

That sounds like a story that needs to be shared.

Us, embarrass family? Nooooooh.

Let's see, I can think of FIVE times that security should have carted us off!
