A giggle for Eris

A mother always loves to hear that she was right. Cruise over to Eris' blog and look at the upper right corner where there is a list of "Things the Numismatist was right about". (Oh, I love this list!) The above photo is regarding #5. Unfortunately, the photo doesn't show the entire dress. It got better the higher it went! I believe this dress (and it was rented -on purpose!) caused the only tears on her wedding day. The rest of us were in "Sunday Best". We have all laughed ever since then.

Athena and gang are in Las Vegas having the times of their lives enjoying the Nascar races and flying high above the Stratosphere. Eris is tending Cholla (who is pooping all over) and also having a rough week at school. I hope this post brings a smile to her face. Things will work out, they always do. Just ask Mr. Eris.

A post by Mr. Eris, Jr.

Look at my cute smile.
Mom is jealous.

Note: Braces came off last night. He left the orthodontist's office with bags of candy and gum that he has been unable to eat for a long time!

Family treasures

Beautiful Lolo and equally handsome John
On our recent trip to Ajo we enjoyed a long-overdue visit with John and Lolo. I was fortunate enough to come home with some boxes of family treasures, including original manuscripts from MA and PA (Mike's parents) as well as some wonderful photos. Thanks to my wonderful new scanner I can share some of them with you.
The photo posted yesterday is John when he was a little boy. I just love how they "colored" that black and white photo.
Rain this morning, snow this afternoon.
The streets were generous.

Happy Birthday to Muriel!

Happy Birthday to my niece Muriel! She is the one in the red shirt holding the baby. Let's see, Athena is 29 so that means that Muriel is 28.
This photo was taken three years ago at Disneyland when I was lucky enough to spend the day with them. Let's do it again!

We hope that your day is great!

for Pohai

We finally arrived at home this afternoon at 4:45 p.m. after nearly 14 hours in the car. We stopped for breakfast in Flagstaff where it was cold, cold, cold and very windy. It was my turn to drive and that woke me up fast! We did the rest of the drive in a straight shot. Good weather and no traffic made it a very uneventful drive home. North Ogden still has more snow than anywhere else along the Wasatch Front.

After working with an extremely slow wifi server in Ajo I can finally get this video up for Pohai. The gibbons (apes? gorillas?) were the last thing we saw when leaving the zoo on Wednesday.

I miss you guys!

It's hard to go back

Yesterday we left Mesa and as usual it was difficult to share that last hug with a friend. However, before we said goodbye Les and I made plans for next year in Hawaii. We drove south to Ajo in the afternoon and arrived at around 4:30 at the La Siesta Motel. For any of you who have been to Grouse Creek you would love our little cabin. Seriously, it is just like the shed at the ranch, same size with an added small bathroom and a microwave and small fridge. It is very comfortable and quiet.

This morning we headed for the border. Along the way we stopped in Why to take a look at our houses. The little house pictured below was actually in fairly good shape, much better than when the aging hippies who bought it from us lived there. It was fun to see how all of our landscaping had grown. Even the block border that I put around the house was still there. I won't post a photo of the big house because it is a mess. The carport in front is filled with junk. Very sad.

I have been surprised at my emotions on this trip. We spent quite a few years working on these two houses and enjoying this area. Those years were a lot of work and involved long hours of travel but we really loved it. I miss it. Do I want to do it again? Probably not.

The little jaunt to Sonoita took only about five hours, and that included an absolutely awful lunch at what used to be our favorite restaurant. When Mike won't finish what he ordered you KNOW it is bad. Also, it was cold and rainy. Since discovering Hawaii the charm of Mexico has dwindled.

Tomorrow I will be spending the day with Lolo and that should be fun. This little town has a wonderful quilt shop and a couple of thrift stores. Also, the big weekend entertainment here is garage sales and Lolo claims to know where all of the good ones are.

We are planning on heading north Sunday morning around 4 am. which will put us home in the late afternoon or evening. My rear end hurts just thinking about it. I miss you all.

Post script: Okay, a day at the zoo with my own grandkids will be happening in the next few months. Thanks for the guilt trip, Eris.

at the zoo

I heard that it snowed back home today. I'm sorry.

Les and I had a great day with Pohai at the Phoenix Zoo. I have never been a great fan of zoos (just ask my grandkids how many times I have taken them) but it was still fun to watch a 3 year old see the real animals for the first time.

And to watch another Grandma share the experience with her granddaughter.
Lots of things to see, hear and taste.

After the zoo we all went out for Greek food, the best I have ever had, and then back home for some fun newborn photos.
Les and I may be getting older but we still recognize a hot guy when we see him. This guy was almost as cute as the speedo man in St. Thomas.

Aloha from Arizona?

After two very nice, relaxing days on the road we finally made it to Tempe/Mesa. This is what we came to see. Kekoa is beautiful, and so far very quiet. We spent almost three hours with them this evening and he slept most of the time. I watched Stef comb his long black hair and actually style it, something we don't get to do with our babies until they are months, sometimes years old!

Not sure what tomorrow will bring, although I am positive it will be loads of fun and laughs with Les and Pohai. After all, we are in a town where no one knows us. Just think of all the trouble we can get into and no one will ever find out! What happens in Mesa stays in Mesa!

Just to make you all a little envious, this is what our dashboard looked like today.

Guess who's coming to play!

Tomorrow night is poker night for the guys. The girls are coming over here. The Duchess felt the need to go south for some sunshine (or a conference) so we get to play with the Princess for a few hours. Since she has done so well with sweet potatoes maybe we'll see how she likes pizza and chocolate chip cookie dough!

Bad words

I got up this morning ready to run for the first time in over a week. Put all the layers of clothes on and headed out to the kitchen. Hmmmm, it looked dark outside. Looked out the front window and started shouting lots of bad words. Who ordered all this snow, anyway? My car hadn't even been out of the garage since Saturday afternoon. Come to think of it, I hadn't left my house since last Saturday! Enough! Enough! I ended up going to the pool/gym to work out. Aarrgghh.

Just to brighten your day:
